When my publisher suggested a bio starting with ‘social media pioneer’, I was a little taken aback. It is not in the nature of the Dutch to brag. And ‘social media pioneer’ sounded a little too forward, I thought.
My publisher insisted. And slowly, other people began to refer to me as pioneer in the field or social media. More importantly, slowly I began to realize that the title suits me.
For a long time, it has been my job to figure out how social media platforms work and translate that into practical tips for the people I work for. After using social media for my own (now defunct) e-commerce business, I worked for one of the Netherlands largest marketing blogs, managing the social media channels, amongst others.
After begin asked to teach a workshop, I realized teaching was as much fun as running social media accounts all day. These days, I get to do both. I still experiment with, read about and talk about social media every single day. And then I get to transfer what I learned to professionals running social media accounts for their businesses.
You’ll find some of my work history and experience on LinkedIn, but most of it is on my blog. Unfortunately, it is in Dutch 🙂 I’d translate it for you, but since it contains over 2200 blog posts, it is not likely to happen.
However, if you sign up for my newsletter, I’ll try to do there what I’ve been doing elsewhere for a long time: share what I learn. And help you get better at using social media for business.
